‘Metropolitan Landscapes’ to address issues between urban and rural areas and ‘From Roads to Streets’ to explore the transformation of roads in the urban fringe.
In response to changing external circumstances and heightened interest from METREX members, we are pleased to announce the formation of two new Expert Groups, both of which will meet for the first time at our upcoming Lisbon Conference.
METREX Expert Groups are the vehicle through which members of the network focus on specific thematic or territorial issues. They also offer the space to collect and expand thinking and new ideas.
Metropolitan Landscapes Expert Group
Prompted by the Committee of the Regions Opinion Paper on the challenges of metropolitan regions and the emerging updates to the Leipzig Charter and the EU Territorial Agenda, as well as discussions at the 2019 Birmingham Conference, Metropolitan Landscapes has formed to enhance the balance between urban and rural.
The Metropolitan Landscapes Expert Group Kick-off meeting will take place in Lisbon on 30 March 2020 at 13:00-15:00.
Following this, there will also be a workshop on the subject as part of the Urban Future Global Conference, which will take place in Lisbon on 1 April at 13:00-14:30 (TBC).
From Roads to Streets Expert Group – Urban Regeneration in the City Fringe
A collaboration between METREX and Eurocities, investigate how to transform and integrate today’s road-traffic barriers in the surrounding urban fabric. The intention is to change the roads from car promoting structures to promoters of environmentally friendly transport and urban multifunctional spaces.
From Roads to Streets Expert Group Kick-off meeting will take place in Lisbon on 30 March 2020 at 11:00-13:00.
