METREX spring conference in Wrocław brings students from three European universities to workshop ideas on the future of Społeczny Square.
The students, who are from post-graduate urban planning courses in Wrocław, Milan and Turin, have been invited by the City of Wrocław and will be paired with experts from the METREX network.
The workshops are part of the bi-annual conference of METREX, which runs from 23-26 April, and will bring experts in planning to the city to focus on current crises in Europe.
The focus of the workshops will be Społeczny Square, a site in the city centre dominated by highway infrastructure that the city is keen to redevelop.
Jakub Mazur, who is first deputy mayor of Wrocław and president of METREX, said: “We are bringing the METREX conference to Wrocław not just to showcase our achievements as a city, but to learn from the unique insights and creativity of the next generation. I look forward to hearing about the ideas they will promote for the city.”
Henk Bouwman, secretary general of METREX, said: “The conference and student workshops will be an opportunity to inject some fresh thinking into the future of this site. The workshops are also part of METREX’s commitment to developing the next generation of planners who can grasp strategic issues and design appropriate solutions.”
