The Ruhrgebiet takes a clear stance on the future EU Cohesion Policy: we call for a strong cohesion policy with adequate funding programmes for all regions in Europe.
After all, the successful transition of Europe’s regions ultimately determines the quality of life of our citizens and the competitiveness of Europe as a whole. It is for this reason that we need EU funding instruments that are tailor-made to the specific conditions in our cities and communities.
The revitalization of brownfields represents such a specific challenge for the Ruhrgebiet and for other post-mining regions in Europe. Together with our partner region in Upper Silesia, the Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowska Metropolia, we want to highlight the revitalization of brownfields as an opportunity and a long-term task for the green and industrial transition of European regions.
