16–20 May 2002, hosted by the Organisation for the Masterplan and Environmental Protection of Thessaloniki and held in the Thessaloniki Port Authority SA Conference Centre. Theme – the Social face of sustainability. Professor Anne Power, CBE, Professor of Social Policy at the London School of Economics and facilitator of the SocioMETREX project, gave the Keynote Address around the 3 themes of:
- Recycle
- Repopulate
- Revitalise
The Conference took note of the UK sustainable development indicators:
- Maintaining high and stable levels of economic growth and development
- Social progress, which recognises the needs of everyone
- Effective protection of the environment
- Prudent use of natural resources.
These and other Conference outcomes gave a basis for the Sustainability Checklist incorporated into the METREX Practice Benchmark. Prof.ssa Mercedes Bresso was elected as METREX President for a second term.
