In these turbulent times, where efforts to mitigate climate change and increased urbanization are confronted with the social, economic and physical impacts of the Covid 19 Pandemic, the future of urban development can seem a whole lot less predictable.
However, we can be sure of one thing. Human beings will keep pursuing good health and wellbeing for themselves and others, whatever the circumstances. That much we have seen in the months following the outbreak of the pandemic and are (personally) experiencing still.
The current crisis around the Pandemic has also laid bare whole groups of society who are left behind.
Urban Development holds an array instruments to influence these circumstances to a positive end. We cannot only see and feel the urgency to make health and wellbeing a driver for urban development, we can also see that we are capable of delivering a meaningful contribution to it.
In this first meeting on Health as a Driver for Urban Development we would like to share with you the experience of the Utrecht and Lyon regions, who have been working with health and wellbeing in their urban development. After further clarification through a Q&A session we will engage you in a debate on the need for installing a METREX Expert Group to further the development and acceptance of health and wellbeing as important drivers for urban development.
This meeting is open to all METREX Members to attend. Please contact Stephen Gallagher (stephen.gallagher@eurometrex.org) for more information.
