The Metropolitan Region of Amsterdam – MRA, hosted by its member municipality of Zaanstad, played a significant role in co-organising the European Metropolitan Authorities (EMA) Forum, which took place on November 20 and 21, 2024. This international gathering of European mayors and representatives from metropolitan regions focused this year on the theme of Broad Prosperity.
Focus on Broad Prosperity
The conference explored how metropolitan regions can contribute to broad prosperity—a concept that seeks to balance economic progress, social well-being, and ecological sustainability. This approach looks beyond short-term economic goals, considering the impact on future generations and the global community. The well-being perspective was discussed as a tool for the European Union and urban regions to make informed choices for a sustainable future.
