Productive City Expert Group meeting – June 2024 2024

12 June 2024 , Online

After the fascinating Productive City Tour through Brussels’ Tour & Taxis quarter organized and led by Adrian Hill during the METREX Spring Conference in the Belgian capital, we are ready for a new insightful session of the Productive City Expert Group.
This time, Dalila Ghodbane will lead a presentation on the Brussels Observatory of Productive Activities

Hosted by the regional planning office, perspective.brussels, the observatory monitors the space dedicated to industry in Brussels by examining building permits issued in the region. The discussion will cover the methods used by the observatory to perform this work, as well as the challenges involved.

Long-term monitoring is an effective way to measure the evolution of industrial space in the city, but it also provides a description of these changes (for example, by locating and showing concrete examples of changes). Such work aims to assess the effects of current planning instruments. As Brussels prepares to modify its zoning plan, it is a good time to review the state of current productive activities.

The online event will conclude with a discussion looking at how to integrate spaces for production in mixed urban areas, with material presented for a proposed final report.
