METREX welcomes two new members from Romania to the network of European metropolitan regions and areas.
Bucharest Metropolitan Area, which covers Bucharest and Ilfov County areas, and Intercommunity Development Iasi Metropolitan Area Association (IDIMAA), have simultaneously joined METREX in what continues recent growth in central and eastern Europe.
METREX secretary general Henk Bouwman said: “We’re thrilled to have welcomed Bucharest Metropolitan Area and Iasi Metropolitan Area to our network. This is significant for METREX as central and eastern Europe – including our new members in the south east of Europe – are proving to be very important areas of learning and collaboration.
“We have been in discussions about joining the network for some months, and it is clear that METREX can and will bring practical knowledge and access to solutions to challenges.”
METREX is open to authorities across Europe operating at, or with an interest in, the metropolitan and regional scale. The network and its activities are unique in covering urban and rural issues, focusing on practical ‘how to’ solutions for Europe’s big challenges.
