Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowska Metropolia (GZM) is the first metropolitan union in Poland, established in 2017, by a special act of the Polish Parliament. GZM covers an area of 2,554 km2 and is inhabited by approximately 2.24 million people. This corresponds to less than 1% of the territory of Poland and at the same time 6% of its population. Moreover, as much as 8% of the country’s GDP is produced there. Many economic sectors are present in GZM – from production, automotive, energy, medicine to IT and technologies of the future.
