Thank you to METREX members who responded to the recent call for input to the ‘State of the European Territory’ report.
For the next stage of consultation, those leading the report invite you to a half-day workshop in Brussels to discuss the latest draft. Two dates have been proposed for this workshop – 27 June 27 or 28 June 2019. Those interested are invited to confirm your preferred date, which will be considered in the planning of the event.

PROJECT CONTEXT: In December 2018, the ESPON EGTC started the elaboration of the “State of the European Territory” report, which should provide observations of the main territorial development trends in Europe and offer policy advice to support the framing of integrated territorial development strategies and related implementation tools at national, regional and local scale for the post-2020 period. This publication is aiming at:
- Supporting policy makers in drafting their future regional development support programmes, regional and local development strategies in the context of the proposals on future EU policies (including Cohesion Policy, agricultural and rural development policy, environmental policy, transport policy etc.);
- Providing contributions to the development of the European Commission’s 8th Cohesion Report; and
- Linking with European territorially relevant policy processes concerning e.g. the renewal of the Territorial Agenda 2020 and the Urban Agenda for the EU.
To make sure that the report lives up to these expectations, a key element is the consultation and involvement of European, national, regional and local stakeholders. The aim of this consultation is to validate the most relevant analysis conclusions and the formulation of consistent key policy recommendations in relation to the priorities of the future Cohesion Policy.
In the elaboration of the “State of the European Territory” report, the ESPON EGTC is supported by the consortium including Civitta Strategy & Consulting (Romania), Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), the Centre for Urban and Territorial Development (CDUT), Indeco Soft and the Intercultural Institute in Timișoara.
